Mount Pleasant Village, Washington, DC: Celebrating the opportunities and meeting the challenges of aging
HomeSocial Isolation Research

            Social Engagement Research

Foggy Bottom West End Village (FBWEV) is conducting a social engagement project.  Research shows a connection between isolation, serious physical and cognitive impairments, and a higher risk of mortality. The good news, however, is that addressing social engagement can lead to better health, reduce the risk of dementia, and improve survival.

FBWEV is asking Mount Pleasant Village to participate in increasing social engagement among our members.  You volunteer, you will be trained, on May 8th or 10th, in interviewing Mount Pleasant Village members, and the interviews will be used to identify ways to alleviate isolation.  Mount Pleasant Village will receive materials to continue combating isolation after the project ends.

Please contact Katie Tyler at 202-468-0364 or Katharine.e.tyler@gmail.com, if you are interested in participating.  You will play an important role in helping your fellow Villagers avoid the consequences of isolation.
