Join us as we find joy and fun in community through health and wellness activities, cultural and social interaction; provide information sessions/activities to support members' planning for aging in place; and support members as they find and join other members to explore special interests. Members are leaders and participants.
Arranging attendance at plays, films, musical events, trips to museums and other points of cultural interest and casual companionship, guided tours of Hillwood House and Gardens and trips to museums like the Frederick Douglass House, the Museum of Women in the Arts and the Smithsonian Museums.
The Village offers health and exercise programs developed especially for those age 50 and older. Stay healthy with Village walking groups, yoga and regular exercise programs. Join other Villagers in participating in the annual Thanksgiving Turkey Trot Run, and the DC Bike Ride.
Classes, workshops, talks, and expert advice. Strategies for Preparing to Grow Older Successfully, e.g., finance and resource management, exploring senior housing options and how to retrofit your home. Village-sponsored Death Cafes and workshops on topics like Medical Note-Taking teach new skills and new ways of thinking about things.
Encouraging and supporting Villagers to develop their own agenda, leadership and meeting schedules for small groups of three or more members who express an interest in coming together in shared experiences around a specific topic or activity. Current Village Interest Groups include:
Each week, the Program Committee sends out two emails to inform Villagers of upcoming events. The Village Announcements go out on Mondays with events and regular activities sponsored by the Village and its partners. FYI – Villagers Around Town goes out Wednesday mornings with information about upcoming social, cultural, civic, informational and other activities around DC that are not sponsored solely by the Village but might interest Villagers.
